Gone but not forgotten.

I met Tom and Sandra nearly 30 years ago. I became quite involved in a few of his projects and we worked together many times. His demeanour and ambition was inspiring, I liked Tom a lot. A proper working class boy who'd elevated himself to become a successful lecturer and author. I mainly had the privilege to be friends with both Tom and Sandra outside of their academic lives and over time, they became two of my favorite humans. Tom often had an interesting perspective on the subjects of conversation and we really did cover a multitude of subjects over the years. I don't really remember any arguments, just acceptance of each other's views and ideas. Tom was very kind and generous with Mr, as I hope I was with him. We shared the same birthday, a year separated our ages. In amongst the many discussions, there was a lit of laughter. Tom and Sandra treated me so wonderfully, often trying to feed up the skinny vegan. I was in awe of Tom's ability to function at such a high level on countless coffees and roll ups. I believed he was made of that indestructible working class mettle that and would endure for ever. Thus it came as a shock to hear he was so terribly unwell. Over years I learned very many things from Tom and despite moving in different worlds, we nurtured a deep and meaningful friendship. I even almost forgave him for being a Chelsea supporter. I am enheartened to read that so many people respected and loved Tom for being "Burnsie". I will really miss my little hockney geezer mate, he was a blessing to be in my life.
